  1. Thank you for trying WinDXmon!!  I hope you find it
  2. useful.  This is a beta release of the software
  3. and I know that there is room for a lot of improvement.

  7. Installation :

  9. Run Setup to install.  The best way to do this is by 
  10. clicking Start, then Settings, then Control Panel,
  11. then Add/Remove Software. 
  12.  
  13. WinDXmon is a native 32 bit application and will not 
  14. run with Windows 3.xx.  It may run ubder Windows 3.11
  15. if you install win32 but I have not verified this.

  20. - Fonts : Selecting a different font only efffects
  21. the "TTY" window.

  25. The intent of this program is to make monitoring
  26. a DXCluster as simple as possible.  The alpha version
  27. of WinDXmon is pretty basic.  The only things
  28. you can change  are the communications parameters
  29. and the font type for the "TTY" window.  Defaults
  30. for communications are COM1, 9600 baud, 8 data
  31. bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit.  The com port and
  32. baud are stored in an "ini" file and recalled the
  33. next time you run the program.  When you run the
  34. program for the first time, you will need to select
  35. the com port and baud rate appropriate for your TNC.

  37. The "TTY" window is the only area of the screen you
  38. can type in.  Log in to your DX Cluster in the normal
  39. way or don't log in at all.  Either way, DX spots and
  40. Announcments are displayed in the memo boxes.  You can
  41. scroll back both the DX Window and Announcement Window
  42. and the "TTY" window to look at older spots and
  43. announcements by pressing PageUp and PageDown. To return
  44. to normal operation, hit the End key.

  50. This release of WinDXmon includes a "no set" clock that
  51. displays GMT in the lower right hand corner.  The clock
  52. routine uses the system settings stored in the system
  53. registry of your computer.  As long as you have properly
  54. set the timezone and time correctly, the time displayed
  55. will have the proper offset.  If the time displayed is
  56. not the proper GMT value and the normal or local time is
  57. set properly, you must run Control Panel to correct your
  58. timezone.

  60. Quick Buttons are another added feature of this release.
  61. They allow you to send frequently used key sequences such
  62. as "C DX" or "SH/DX" by pressing the appropriate button.
  63. To program these buttons, use File|Quick Button Setup.
  64. A dialog box will appear and allow you to select one of
  65. the 14 buttons and enter a button text, send string,
  66. Carridge Return, and Control-C.  All modifications are
  67. stored in an ini file and read the next time you run
  68. WinDXmon.

  72. Problems occured when users had another application using
  73. Com 1.  Error protection was added in addition to an
  74. "OpenCom" menu item.

  80. IMPORTANT : The intent of this program is to aleviate
  81. the burden on the DX Cluster, NOT TO GET OUT OF PAYING
  82. CLUB DUES FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE DX CLUSTER!  I wrote
  83. this program because at times, especially during contests,
  84. my TNC times out and my buffer is filled with the latest
  85. four DX spots sent to 30 users... not fun when you
  86. have to log in every 15 minutes!

  88. You can still log into the Cluster with this program.
  89. It will still put DX spots in the "DX Window" and
  90. announcements in the "Announcements Window".  That's
  91. a nice feature if want to keep all the "Broadcasters"
  92. comments seperate from the DX spots...

  94. WinDXmon for Windows 95 is not public domain
  95. software.  I hold the copyright for this program and
  96. for all the documentation belonging to it. Please
  97. distribute the ZIP file in its entirety.
